John Piper on the WoF

1 11 2007

Hello y’all,

BRK again. Just a quick post while I’m in-between lessons. A very thankful hat-tip to Tyris Horton, for bringing this video up on his blog. (BTW, y’all should hit him up on his blog too - he’s got some great stuff on there…) It’s Pastor John Piper, from Desiring God Ministries, speaking at UCF in Birmingham, Alabama. Now this is what I like to hear:

Until next time,

5 Solas,

BRK

P.S. Our WordImpact Bible study series starts this evening. I’ll post the first study at 7:30 my time, with some opening comments as well. Grace and peace

Hey brother. I came across your site from an email trail that I was copied on. I think you were contacting Pastor John. I just want to encourage you. If I were where you were 13 years ago, my God who knew what would have become of me. So keep it up brother. Don’t get to boggled down in the false teaching. Find some good authors and dig in to those books and the scriptures. Sometimes we allow the WOF movement to derail us and we lose focus on Christ and the Gospel. Hit me up at http://www.lionelwoods@hotmail.com if you need direction in that area. Love you brother and your heart, I am going to be scared of you and maybe reading your books hear in the near future. God bless.

Edward Paul (18:34:47) :

This whole WoF thing is what I believe the Apostle Paul called the doctrine of demons. I recommend a great book called A Different Gospel by D R McConnell. It gives an indepth look at the WoF origins and its occultic roots. Before I left I had a meeting with the Asst Pastor to discuss my concerns about the Word faith direction the church was going. We discussed among other things positive confessions, tongues and the unhealthy emphasis that is placed on money especially tithing.

Of course he had a myriad of scriptures (all out of context ) to refute my (biblical) take on the topics mentioned above. Out of all his inane ramblings, what blew my mind was when he equated my righteousness with tithing using Matt 5:20. His irrational rationale was that the Pharisees tithed because it was part of their righteousness so therefore tithing (as an act) is/was part of righteous behaviour. RUBBISH. Can you believe this guy was a minister for 40yrs and went to seminary. This just shows that the whole WoF thing is all about money and big business. God will judge it and inded he is .Look at what’s happening to Bynum ($200K threshing floor appeal-PLEASE GIVE ME A BREAK), and Paula White. He’s starting with them.

I’ve rambled long enough. Nice to see more guys on the blog (Steve). Let’s stand up for the truth guys. His grace is sufficient for us.

I agree Lionel that it’s important not to get too caught up on The WOF even though it’s really consuming Christianity at the moment.

I echo your point, knowing everything about the WOF won’t get us into heaven but knowing the true word Of God and living by it will.

So let’s ensure that we get the balance right..

Nice to be a part of a positive and encouraging blog Edward..

Blessings to you too Bro…
